Antonia: In this photo I was with a nurse this morning talking about a patient that needed a referral to MUSC…[community health workers] work with nurses, with doctors. Like, for example, here in the clinic, [we work] with the nutritionist, with the counselor, with the social worker. It is a job that one does in teams. It is a job that we have in common, and as community health workers because we advocate for patients, or in our case, we help the Hispanic community with language barriers or also the barrier of maybe people arrive and don’t know how the health system functions or if they need any other referral… It’s important for us that our patients have health insurance.
Antonia: En esa [foto] también [yo] estaba con una enfermera esta mañana hablando acerca de un paciente que necesitábamos a referir a MUSC…[los promotores de salud comunitarios trabajan] en conjunto con enfermeros, con doctores. Como, por ejemplo, nosotros en la clínica, con la nutricionista, con el consejero, con el social worker. Es un trabajo que se hace todo en equipos. Es un trabajo que llevamos todos en común y como community workers porque como abogamos por los pacientes o en el caso de nosotros, ayudamos a la comunidad hispana por la barrera del lenguaje o también la barrera de de tal vez personas que han llegado y no saben aún cómo funciona el sistema de salud o si ellos necesitan algún otro referido, pues todo lo tratamos de primero que sea como el que vaya al de la mano, con también con la salud, ¿verdad? Es importante para nosotros que nuestros pacientes tengan un, el cuidado médico.
